This month in the spotlight are our friends over at Mama’s Kombucha. They’re another fermenting local here in Helensville, and a must-try if you’re a fan of the genuine ‘booch’!
How did you get into the business of making Kombucha?
Rene and I have both been into making our own ferments at home for years. One night over a gin we decided to bottle our kombucha and it took on its own life from there.
What has been the hardest thing you’ve learned along the way?
Hard to pinpoint the hardest! Probably that everything takes a lot longer and costs a lot more than you expect. People tell you that but it still comes as a shock!
We bet! What do you like about working out of Helensville?
We have an amazing community of businesses around us. It’s great to be around people who are dealing with similar stuff.
What’s your favourite fermented food or beverage (apart from your own!)?
Kimchi and beer.
