Let’s get down to business
We talk a lot about probiotics on our website and social media - and in our day to day life. And it’s no secret why, from the story of how we got started, to the day to day maintenance of probiotics in our own krauts and kimchis. We love telling people how they can get more probiotics in their life, but we realised we’ve never dedicated a blog to exactly what they are.
If you’ve been wondering, well you’re in luck, because today we break it down for you.
When you think of bacteria, you’re likely picturing a nasty bug or parasite that is sitting on your kitchen bench top, on the lids of public trash cans, and underneath the fingernails of every 3 year old in existence.
Well, technically you’re not wrong. Those are bacteria and they do exist in those places. But bacteria is actually a wide-reaching species of little creatures who are both good and evil. You have your Batman bacteria, and your Joker bacteria. And some Catwoman bacteria who are of ambiguous morality thrown in for good measure.
Today’s blog isn’t to explain every bacteria in existence, not only do we not have the time, we don’t have the expertise. But what we can tell you about is probiotics.
Probiotics are the good bacteria guys for your gut. They help the bacteria in your gut digest food properly, and run at optimal condition. Like buying really high quality oil for your car.
WebMD (that place you go to find out if you have a headache or a brain tumor) describes probiotics as “live bacteria and yeasts that are good for you, especially your digestive system. Probiotics are often called "good" or "helpful" bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy. Doctors often suggest them to help with digestive problems.”
This is a fantastic way to describe these little guys.
There is a lot of research these days backing up the idea that the gut is as, or even more, important than the brain in regulating emotions and health, so if you’re wanting to lead a healthy and happy life, it’s time to make probiotics a priority.
